Learn how to apply the following digital accessibility best practices to your content in Microsoft Word:

Sharing Word Documents

When you share a Word document in "View mode", the Word for Web version will not be accessible for screen reader users; however, the document can be viewed without a problem in Word for Desktop.

If you export your Word document to PDF to share digitally, you should follow these steps in Word for Desktop to make sure the document will maintain its structure and accessible markup:

  1. Open the File menu and select Save As...
  2. Choose the PDF format from the dropdown.
  3. Mac version: select the radio button Best for electronic distribution and accessibility.

Challenge the conventional. Create the exceptional. No Limits.
