The Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion recently announced the re-instatement of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition Science Board as a subcommittee of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition. Included in the board were Felipe Lobelo, a former PhD student in the department of Exercise Science, and Karin Pfeiffer, who worked as a post-doc at CPARG. The focus of the 2020-2021 Science Board will be youth sports and they will support the US Department of Health and Human Services to implement and promote the National Youth Sports Strategy. According to the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, the members are experts from academic and medical institutions who specialize in different aspects of youth sports, such as benefits of participation, development and specialization, burnout, couching, injury, nutrition and interventions to improve and increase youth participation.
