Research and Teaching Interests
Dr. Soto-Ramírez's research interests encompass maternal and child health, perinatal epidemiology, epigenetics, and child welfare. Her research has primarily focused on maternal and child health, specifically in relation to allergies, asthma, and eczema in children. She aims to understand how early life exposures, such as breastfeeding duration and immune markers in maternal serum and breast milk whey, influence the child's immune system. This inquiry has led her to explore the role of epigenetics in pediatric health outcomes.
Her work on child welfare includes examining access to and utilization of mental health services among children in foster care, as well as disparities in the use of telemental health services within this population. Additionally, Dr. Soto-Ramírez is interested in how early life experiences, both before and during foster care, impact adverse outcomes such as homelessness, incarceration, and substance abuse among youth.
