Research and Teaching Interests
Dr. Hair's research has touched on two broad areas: socioeconomic determinants of health/development and the economic costs of chronic illness and disability. Recent research has examined the influence of poverty on children’s structural brain development, outlining a neurobiological channel that helps to explain the achievement gap between poor and affluent children. Other work considers the spillover effects than an individual’s poor health status may have on the human capital and/or labor market outcomes of co-residential family members.
