COVID-19 and the South Caroliniana Library

The South Caroliniana Library is currently closed in accordance with the closure of all University of South Carolina campuses for the remainder of the spring 2020 semester. For remote research assistance or to plan a future visit, please contact sclref@mailbox.sc.edu or schedule a virtual meeting with a reference librarian.

Using Our Collections

In addition to following any special handling instructions provided by staff:

  • Patrons must register with a photo ID once per academic year
  • Backpacks and other personal items must be placed in lockers
  • No pens, food, beverages or personal scanners
  • Personal cameras without flash are permitted with staff approval

Reproduction Policies

Reproductions are for personal research only. They may not be added to the holdings of another institution or repository. Quality is based on the condition of the original materials. Copies are purchased at the risk of the requester.

Users at a distance may request reproduction services by calling or emailing sclref@mailbox.sc.edu. Applicable fees will be charged in advance.


Course Instruction

We cannot accommodate on-site visits during our renovations, but you can email sclref@mailbox.sc.edu or one of our curators to request a class presentation. Please provide the following:

  • Your name
  • Phone and email contact information
  • Course number and title
  • Number of students
  • Class meeting times
  • Preferred dates and times for the session
  • Specific needs or resources to be covered
