Hollings Library

The Irvin Department of Rare Books & Special Collections, South Carolina Political Collections, and Digital Collections share the Ernest F. Hollings Special Collections Library and the Dorothy B. Smith Reading Room.

The Hollings Library is accessed through the main level of Thomas Cooper Library at 1322 Greene Street, Columbia, SC.

Due to the ongoing Coronavirus Pandemic (COVID-19), access to the Hollings Library will be by APPOINTMENT ONLY. The Smith Reading Room will have limited hours, from 11 am – 1 pm, and all users will be required to register and request items in advance with either the Political Collections or Rare Books department. Those interested in researching with either the Irvin Department of Rare Books or the South Carolina Political Collections must contact the appropriate department 24 HOURS before their arrival. Those who need to meet with a member of the library faculty or staff should contact the appropriate librarian and make arrangements before coming to the library. Classroom visits, public events, and tours are suspended through the end of the year. Those interested in working with library faculty to find digital and distance education alternatives to special collections materials for their courses are encouraged to contact the appropriate department to work toward solutions.
