John Drummond Papers

John Drummond represented the Greenwood area in the South Carolina Senate for more than forty years (beginning in 1965), including service as president pro tempore, 1996-2001, before retiring in 2008.

One of Drummond's most important roles was as chairman of the State Reorganization Commission, which attempted to streamline and cut costs in all facets of state government. Before control of the Senate went to Republicans in 2001, Drummond was chairman of the Senate Finance Committee and a member of the State Budget and Control Board. During World War II, he became a highly-decorated fighter pilot for the 405th Fighter Group.
