In 1972, Lourie won election to the state Senate. In 1995, Governor David Beasley appointed Lourie to the twenty-two-member South Carolina Commission on Racial Relations.
Collection Finding Aid
The collection consists of material, chiefly 1978-1992, documenting his career in
the SC House of Representatives (Richland County), 1965-1972, and the SC Senate, 1973-1992.
Topical files include material on such issues as aging, elections, the environment,
gambling, homelessness, and administrative material on Richland County and its legislative
delegation. Personal papers document Lourie's campaigns and activity in his synagogue.
