Ashmore, Robert T. (1904-1989)

Prior to his Congressional career, Robert T. Ashmore served as Solicitor for the Greenville County Court, 1930-1934, and the 13th Circuit Court of South Carolina, 1936-1953. He also was involved, 1970-1985, with the South Carolina Appalachian Council of Governments, a voluntary organization of local governments in Upstate South Carolina counties.

Collection Finding Aid
The collection chiefly consists of correspondence, speeches, and clippings from his time as Congressman. Also included are records of his campaigns for office, 1935-1970, and work with the South Carolina Appalachian Council of Governments, 1970-1985.

Interviewed in 1989 just prior to his eighty-fifth birthday, Ashmore reflects on his life, achievements, and values. This interview was conducted by his great-nephew, Greenville Middle School eighth-grader Robbie Eskew, for a school history project.
