The University of South Carolina's Moving Image Research Collections (MIRC) preserves
films and videos produced outside the American feature film industry to make them
available to present and future audiences. There are many ways to access or license

COVID-19 and Moving Image Research Collections
To respect social distancing measures and to ensure the health of the campus community, MIRC
is currently closed. MIRC faculty and staff continue to serve our clients and patrons
remotely by providing:
We are currently changing our online platform and will be moving away from our Digital Video Repository and into the University Libraries' Digital Collections repository in CONTENTdm. MIRC
materials can be viewed on our digital collections homepage. Materials are selected for the repository based, in part, on patrons’ requests.

The general public, as well as students, faculty, and staff may view material online
free of charge.
The university owns the rights to most of the material held byMIRCand relies in part on licensing revenues to offset the expense of caring for archival
film materials. Licensing fees and agreements vary based upon the duration of footage
licensed, the nature of the work in which they will be included, and the size of the
audience the work is expected to reach.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), MIRC will be suspending all in-person
classroom activities, tours, and student internships. Faculty and instructors who
wish to develop a distance education option for their courses to have digital access
to our special collections material are encouraged to contact: mirc@mailbox.sc.edu.
