Emily is a USC-Columbia graduate with a BA in English. As an undergrad, Emily was an Orientation Leader, Resident Mentor, and University Ambassador. After serving as a high school English teacher in Sumter, SC, from 1999-2003, she decided she loved teaching people more than she loved teaching English and went back to her Student Affairs roots at the University of South Carolina. She has since worked in a variety of orientation, advisement, and student services roles as well as being heavily involved with the AEC (Administrative Employees Club), Carolina Judicial Council, and the recent formation of the Staff Senate.

She and her husband Joe (SCHC class of ’97) have two sons, Jared and Noah, and a Catahoula leopard mix named Bruno. Joe also works on campus with the Rule of Law Collaborative. The family loves cooking, eating, camping, fishing, climbing trees, and watching Disney+ together. They also enjoy traveling to various places to visit with their Southern and Filipino family.  

Emily is an avid reader, an ENFP on the Myers-Briggs indicator, has a True Color of blue, and her top 5 strengths are positivity, input, adaptability, learner, and empathy.
