Congratulations to the graduates of the 2016-17 Emerging Leaders Program (ELP). On April 28, 2017, twenty-four university leaders completed a year-long cohort-based professional development program. The Emerging Leaders Program is designed for administrative professionals who are currently serving in a supervisory or management position, and who have the potential to hold a higher-level administrative leadership position at USC in the elpnear future.
Over the course of this academic year, ELP participants engaged in over 60 hours of targeted professional development activities focused on President Pastides’ Five Leadership Competencies:
- Leading Change
- Leading People
- Managing for Results
- Institutional Knowledge and Understanding
- Building Relationships
Within those broad categories, ELP participants learned more about self-management, influencing others, developing effective teams, and managing change in their areas of expertise. They also were exposed to information related to the processes of budgeting, capital planning, managing academic units, and human resources management.
The ELP program serves a vital purpose within the university’s succession planning efforts by helping to prepare individuals for leadership roles in the future. Applications for the 2017-18 ELP cohort are being accepted through June 1, 2017. Visit the Division of Human Resources website for more information.
