Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

The Employee Assistance Program, commonly referred to as EAP, is available to help employees and their family members through times of need. The EAP can help with a wide range of life situations such as:

  • Marital difficulties
  • Parenting
  • Stress
  • Depression
  • Work-related concerns
  • Alcohol and drug use/abuse
  • Grief and loss
  • Preventative

EAP Access

Employees have access to counselors 24 hours a day, 365 days a year by calling 800-633-3353 or 704-529-1428. To access work-life services, log into mygroup.com using the username "USC" and password "guest", or download the MYgroup app.


Types of Services

Employees and their immediate household members have access to the following types of services:

When employees and family members call the EAP, they are offered a counseling session in which a thorough assessment will be conducted by a licensed, experienced clinician in their area. 

Counseling appointments can be conducted on the phone, virtual or face-to-face, covering the following areas:

  • Short-term individual, family, couples and group counseling, which includes up to 6 sessions per person, per issue, per year, at no cost to employees and their immediate household members
  • On-site trainings – supervisory, wellness, EAP orientations, health fairs, management consultations, etc.
  • Monthly online training and seminars
  • Work-life services including legal and financial, or child and elder referrals
  • Unlimited management and supervisory consultation

The EAP website has many resources available to help with the following categories – parenting, aging, balancing, thriving, living, working and international.

  • Monthly online seminars with certificates of completion
  • Searchable databases and resource links for:
    • Child care providers
    • Elder care and related services
    • Adoption resources
    • Attorneys
    • Certified financial planners
    • Pet sitting
    • Private and public high schools
    • Colleges
    • Volunteer opportunities
  • Over 100 streaming audio and video files covering a range of health topics
  • Savings Center: discount shopping program offering up to 25% discounts on name-brand items
  • Relocation Center: an interactive program that allows users to preview communities across the U.S.

  • Free legal advice over the phone
  • Web-based legal resources
  • Free 30-minute appointment for a legal consultation with a local attorney
  • In most cases, 25% discount on ongoing legal services
  • Legal forms available to download such as wills, power of attorney, requests for death certificates etc.

To access legal resources, follow the steps listed below:

  1. Log in using the username "USC" and password "guest"
  2. Scroll down to the middle of the page, hover over "Centers", and then click on "Legal/Financial"
  • Free financial counseling appointments
  • Issues addressed include bankruptcy, budgeting, buying a home, college savings and retirement planning
  • Educational materials and financial worksheets provided prior to appointments
  • 40 financial calculators available online
  • ID theft recovery through credit monitoring
  • Discounted credit reports
  • Free tax software
  • Access to the Savings Center which provides discounts on such items as hotels, cars, flights, major appliances, technology, clothing, restaurants, movie tickets and more

Personal Development Courses 

  • In partnership with MyGroup, the university offers a variety of personal development courses. Search the HR Training Calendar and register for the course you want to attend. 

Cost

Except for fees associated with the purchase of legal documents, the EAP provides up to six counseling sessions per person, per issue, per year at no cost to university faculty, staff and their immediate household members. 


Confidentiality

All EAP benefits are as confidential as the law allows. The university has no need or desire to know who uses these services, nor will anyone have access to any information without your consent. The only exceptions are when someone's safety is in question. The university's EAP provider, McLaughlin Young Group (MYgroup), does submit statistical reports to the university, but no names or identifying information are ever included in these reports.
