2023 My Carolina Health and Wellness Expo

 

Catch the Wellness Wave!

The My Carolina Health and Wellness Expo is is the benefits fair reimagined. This annual event is designed to provide faculty and staff with information about the various benefits and resources available to them as part of their employment at the university. This event aims to educate employees about their benefits packages, promote a healthy work-life balance, and foster a sense of community within the university.

This year's event will feature the Cocky Walk, a food and clothing drive and over 40 vendors to further assist you in taking full advantage of your employee benefits.

 

This Year's Breakout Sessions 

Provides a general overview of the changes that you can make for the upcoming year.

Presented by the Benefits Office and TASC.

Investing 101 is a basic overview of investing that explains the difference between saving and investing, asset classes and investment styles, stocks, bonds and mutual funds, and how to deal with market volatility.

Investing 102 includes in-depth information on investing, tax implications, performance measurement, managing risk, evaluating investments, and common investing terminology.

Presented by Lynn Carney and Michael Leonard of MetLife.

A new generation is getting ready to collect Social Security. Find out what you need to know to make the most out of your retirement benefits. The decisions you make today can have a tremendous bearing on the total amount of benefits you stand to receive over your lifetime.

Presented by Chip Stanley of Janney Montgomery Scott, LLC.

This training will be a combination of classroom presentation and hands- on exercise. It will provide you with knowledge about the “fire triangle” , different classification of fires and types of fire extinguishers. We will also provide step by step instruction on how to properly use a fire extinguisher (PASS).

On Campus - Russell House Ballroom 

Administrative Employees Club (AEC)

Served the university by creating social and service opportunities through which staff, faculty and retired employees can come together as a community.

Athletics/ Ticket Office

 One of the greatest aspects of Gamecock Nation. Faculty and staff in full-time permanent positions are allowed to purchase season football, baseball and basketball tickets at a reduced price. 

Benefits Office

A part of Human Resources, the Benefits Office manages the core and supplemental insurance benefits and retirement programs, leave to include FMLA and Workers' Compensation. 

Bright Horizons

Daycare center that partners with university faculty and staff to provide care for children ages birth through kindergarten prep.

Carolina Dining Services/Carolina Food Co.

Provides food to the campus community. Has both restaurants and catering services for events. 

Continuing Education and Conferences

Offer numerous professional education certificate programs for professional development through department funds (SHRM, Project Management, Lean Six Sigma, etc.). 

Gamecock Community Shop (GCS)/ Gamecock Pantry

This free store on campus is open to staff, faculty, and students. They use a point system to get clothing items, school supplies, toiletries, food, and clothes. GCS is a FoodShare Fresh Food Box pickup location too. 

Gamecocks Live Well

Wellness programs and resources directed toward university faculty and staff. This includes, medical, preventative, mental health, interpersonal violence prevention, and recreation.  

Giving at SC/ Family Fund

When we fortify the foundation we stand on, we all grow stronger. When our faculty and staff give to the Family Fund campaign, they move our mission forward by investing in the research, programs and initiatives that continue to build a better University of South Carolina.

Organizational & Professional Development (OPD)

A part of Human Resources, OPD an array of learning opportunities and services to achieve learning goals, build teams, and enhance leadership skills. 

Staff Senate 

The University of South Carolina Staff Senate serves as an open forum to facilitate communication and collaboration among university staff members. It also serves as an advisory committee to the university president, adding an essential voice to strategic conversations and decisions that support the goals of the institution.

Talent Acquisition 

Responsible for driving activities related to recruitment, selection, hiring, staffing, internal position changes, and vacancy management processes by demonstrating industry knowledge training and strong client partnerships. Create and foster relationships to attract and recruit candidates of diverse backgrounds. Utilize various sourcing and pipeline strategies to proactively identify qualified candidates that match short and long-term client needs.

The Sustainable Carolina Garden

A student-run 1 acre garden. Offers employees the opportunity to volunteer or adopt a plot of their own. Gardening has wonderful health benefits—aside from the produce grown, it is a practice in mindfulness! 

USC Payroll

USC Payroll department is responsible for preparing payrolls for the University of SC in accordance with university policies and federal/state rules and regulations. 

USC Police Department

The USC Campus Police department provides security to students, faculty, and staff on the campus of the university. 

Vehicle Management & Parking

Handles the long term leasing, maintenance and general repairs of state owned university vehicles and the registration of all vehicles parked on campus and manages the university's parking policies and regulations. It also manges university transportation and the shuttle system.

Veterans and Military Services

The Veterans and Military Services team can help you navigate the unique experience of balancing student and service life. We help address questions, assist with benefit requirements and connect you to campus resources exclusively for veterans and military.

 Department of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) 

Provides occupational health and safety services to the University community through technical support, information and various training programs, consulting services and periodic auditing of health and safety practices and regulatory compliance.

American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) engages in mental health initiatives to raise awareness for and support mental health. The AFSP is dedicated to saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide.

American Heart Association Midlands

The American Heart Association, a global force for longer, healthier lives is committed to driving equitable health impact in South Carolina through five key priority areas: women, readiness, tobacco and vaping, patients and healthy living. Their mission is to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular disease and stroke. 

ASIFlex (HSA)

Provides account-based administration for Health Savings Accounts (HSA). A HSA is an individually owned tax-advantaged account that allows the accountholder to pay for qualified health care expenses if covered under a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP). Contributions to a HSA are tax-free, interest can be earned on the account which is tax-free, and qualified distributions are tax-free. Unused funds and interest carry forward, without limit, from year to year. The accountholder owns the account and can keep the account even when changing jobs or stopping work.

Campus Recreation (Fitness)

A department within the university dedicated to providing students and employees with different recreational, aquatic, athletic, and outdoor experiences. They will perform the InBody 270 Composition analyzer. The InBody 270 accurately measures your body composition in less than 15 seconds. You will receive a result sheet with key body composition components to track your progress and health which include:

Mackey Family Practice

Mackey Family Practice is a medical provider located in Lancaster, SC. They provide a variety of general and occupational medical services and will be administering the preventative workplace screening. This service is free to State Health Plan -Standard and Savings Plan participants. Please bring your insurance card.

Student Health Services

Student Health Services is committed to improving the health and well-being of our Carolina community. They provide a variety of different medical and wellness services to student and employees. They will administer flu shots at no cost. Please bring your insurance card.

Massage Envy

A local and national business dedicated to providing quality massages, stretches, facials, and other services to customers. They will provide free massage samples and hand facials.

School of Medicine Assistive Medical Technology

The South Carolina Assistive Technology Program (SCATP) uses technology devices and services to help people with disabilities live, work and learn more independently. They are federally funded and part of a national network that provides the devices that increase, maintain or improve functional capabilities for people with disabilities.  They will be providing a free hearing test.

Campus Recreation (Outdoor)

A department within the university dedicated to providing students and employees with different recreational, aquatic, athletic, and outdoor experiences.

Ride the Wave to a Healthier You

This year's event features the Cocky Wellness Walk, a fitness initiative that will take place at 11:30 a.m. around the Horseshoe on USC's campus. The one-mile trek is a way to way to boost your cardiovascular health, burn calories, and take in the views on campus. It's a suitable form of exercise for people of all ages and fitness levels. Employees are encouraged to put on their walking shoes and join the wave! 

 

Make Waves Through Donations 

What you do today can change the world around you. Attendees of the My Carolina Health and Wellness Expo are encouraged to bring donations for the Gamecock CommUnity Shop (GCS). GCS is a free store on campus open to staff, faculty, and students. They use a point system to get clothing items, school supplies, toiletries and food. GCS is a FoodShare Fresh Food Box pickup location too. Boxes labeled for donations will be placed at the entrance of the Russell House Ballroom.

 

Worksite Health Screening and Flu Shot 

Walk-in-Flu Shot Clinic will be available. No out-of-pocket cost will incur for a vaccination, and Student Health Services will file with your insurance. Upload your insurance card to your  MyHealthSpace account prior to coming to the clinic. 

Worksite Health Screening, through MFP WorkWellness will have free screenings to participants with State Blue Cross & Blue Shield (BC&BS) as their primary insurance. Participants who do not have State BC&BS will be responsible for covering a $47 charge.  All participants are responsible for paying for additional tests as follows:

Pack your bags! Open enrollment time is here, and eligible employees may change their coverage for the upcoming year. PEBA wants to help you choose your benefits destination, so you are ready to select your insurance coverage for 2024. Benefits Counselors will be on site to assist you with making open enrollment changes in the SEC Room in Russell House.

Any changes that you make during open enrollment will take effect January 1, 2024.

Highlights for 2024

  • Active employee health insurance premiums will not increase in 2024.
  • There will be an increase in premiums for Dental Plus and the State Vision Plan.
  • The State Health Plan will cover an annual well woman visit at no member cost for eligible female non-Medicare primary members, effective January 1, 2024.
  • The State Health Plan will cover birth control at no member cost for primary members covered as child dependents.
  • Total Administrative Services Corporation (TASC) will be the new State Flexible Benefits Plan (MoneyPlus) administrator. Administrative fees will reduce to $2.14 per account per month. Learn more at www.SCMoneyPlus.com (coming soon).
