Graduate Students: Important Message about Payroll from Dean Addy

Dear Graduate Students,

For more than two years, university staff have been diligently working toward the implementation of PeopleSoft Human Capital Management (HCM) for all Human Resources and Payroll activities.  For those of you with graduate assistantships, most of the changes will be seen only by the staff who process your appointment as a graduate assistantship.  However, one change will have significant short-term impact. The new system will include a payroll lag.  A lag means earnings for the first half of the month will be paid at the end of the month, and earnings for the second half of the month will be paid the following month on the 15th day.  In most cases, this will mean that you will work a full month before you see your first pay check.  Employees paid on an hourly basis already have a payroll lag, but this will be a new process for graduate assistants.  On behalf of the Graduate School, I wanted to ensure you knew of this change as soon as possible so you could plan accordingly. Implementation of the payroll lag is effective April 1.  For graduate assistants with a current appointment for the spring semester, you will not see any change until reappointment in the summer or fall. If you have any questions, please contact your graduate director or designated HR personnel in your department.
