Citizenship & Residency

The state of South Carolina requires students attending a public university in the state to provide proof of citizenship or lawful immigration certification.

Proof of Citizenship

All students must provide confirmation that they are a citizen/national of the United States or lawfully present in the country.

U.S. Citizens

Submit Citizenship Verification

Submit your verification as instructed on the Registrar's Citizenship page prior to registering for classes. 

Non-U.S. Citizens

Immigration Documentation 

If you are not a U.S. citizen/national, you must submit your immigration documentation to International Student Services.  

 

South Carolina Legal Residency 

Submit SC Residency Certification Form 

Students hoping to receive in-state tuition must complete the SC Residency Certification form via Self-Service Carolina. This does not apply to students with assistantships and fellowships.

  • SC Car Registration Information
  • SC Tax information
