Current and emerging health problems in society: causes, effects, and prevention.

Notes:

**Open to ALL Honors students.**This course focuses on current and emerging health problems in society focusing on the causes, effects, and prevention. Specifically, students will study a topic that is of growing interest and importance within the field of public health – how policy and environmental strategies can influence active living, healthy eating, and obesity prevention. Students will explore the value of a social ecological approach to community health and the diverse factors within our neighborhoods and communities that impact decisions and behaviors related to recreational and utilitarian physical activity, as well as sedentary behavior, and healthy and unhealthy food consumption. This can lead to a better understanding of how policies and interventions related to the built and social environment can be better designed to facilitate obesity prevention as well as numerous other physical and mental health benefits for individuals and communities.

Challenge the conventional. Create the exceptional. No Limits.
