My Honors College

Honors Beyond the Classroom Funding Hub

The South Carolina Honors College offers funding for each of our Beyond the Classroom areas: internships, research, service learning and study abroad. Additionally, the university also provides funding in some of these categories. Our Honors funding opportunities are typically need-based and availability is subject to change. Students engaging and exploring beyond the classroom is foundational to the Honors experience, and we encourage students to take advantage of these funding opportunities when needed.

Internships

Honors Internship Scholarships

The Honors College awards scholarships to support students enrolled in summer sections of the Honors internship courses SCHC 498 and SCHC 494.

Summer Smith Taylor Internship Award

The Summer Smith Taylor Internship Award supports current Honors College students engaged in internships where technical writing is a substantial part of their job duties (i.e. more than 50%).

State Government Program

Funding is available for students participating in the State Government Program. Funding for this program becomes available after the first semester seminar is completed, and the application will be emailed to participants at that time.

Research

SCHC Research Grants

The Honors College Research Grant provides funding to Honors students who want to explore their academic interests, improve research skills and develop professionally and academically under the supervision of world class faculty. Awarded as a stipend, it is disbursed to undergraduate researchers at a rate of $10/hour for up to 150 hours per semester and 300 hours per academic year. There are two grant application periods: one in the spring and one in the fall.

Honors College Conference Presentation Grants

The Honors College Conference Presentation Grant is designed to reimburse Honors College students for costs associated with presenting their research at regional, national or international academic conferences.

Service Learning

Course Fees Funding

Several of our service learning courses have a travel component that require a program fee. We have need—based funding available for students, and an application is required.

Study Away

SCHC Study Abroad Scholarships

The South Carolina Honors College awards need-based scholarships to support students participating in SCHC and USC sponsored study abroad experiences.
