Study Away

Students may fulfill the BTC requirement through the successful completion of a Study Away course. The Honors College actively encourages students to enrich their educational experience by studying away from campus. “Study Away” includes both domestic and international (or “study abroad”) opportunities.  Student must receive course credit for the study away activity.

To fulfill the BTC requirement, the experience must be, at the least, a summer short-term program (at least 3 weeks).  Students will not receive BTC credit for a course that includes a study away component, such as a spring break trip.

Honors College and departmental study away courses are both eligible to fulfill the Honors BTC requirement and Honors elective requirement.

Opportunities for Study Away

COVID Contingencies

We are planning ahead and developing AMAZING experiences for 2021, with the understanding that these travel plans might have to be canceled.

Here’s what we’re doing to ensure the safety of our students and to make sure students aren’t penalized financially.

  • To secure your placement in a Study Abroad course, you WILL have to  submit a $500 deposit by the Dec. 4, 2020 deadline (spots fill up quickly, so the earlier you deposit, the better!). Submit deposits here»
  • Safety is our top priority.  The Honors College, along with the university, will determine by mid-February if travel abroad is safe for our students in Summer 2021.
  • If we aren’t able to travel, students will be reimbursed the FULL deposit!

Please contact our Study Away Coordinator, Kevin Metcalf, if you have additional questions.

Challenge the conventional. Create the exceptional. No Limits.
