Laws and regulatory bodies affecting the management of sport personnel, facilities, and events. Prerequisite: SPTE 240 or equivalent. CL: 2020.
Notes:
Law In this course, you will learn about current legal issues impacting the business of sports, including for spectators, participants, athletes, teams, and stadiums. Example from professional sports, college sports, as well as Olympic sport are used to detail how law in sport has evolved. Laws discussed include Torts, Contracts, Intellectual Property, Antitrust, and Civil rights in sport, among others. Students engage in lively class discussions and participate in a mock trial to develop advanced skills in legal reasoning and critical thinking. This course is ideal for those planning to apply to law school. Pre-requisite include one entry level law course, such as Business law or equivalent.
