Notes:
This class, The State of American Politics, is designed to consider and discuss the principal historical and contemporary factors that affect the state of contemporary American politics – an ambitious undertaking. This course assumes that politics is America’s most comprehensive societal activity. In any society politics is affected by, and on occasion affects, the history, mores, traditions, religions, political systems and economics of that society. To attempt to understand how these cultural, economic, and historical aspects of society affect our modern political institutions is a bold undertaking.
