Notes:
A comprehensive look at the modern writing career, this course looks at the changing landscape of publishing and opportunities for writers to forge careers for themselves. From so-called "traditional" publishing to digital press opportunities afforded by Amazon and others, the publishing industry is one of the most dynamic environments to build a career in the new decade. We will examine the various streams of revenue that support modern literary professionals (teaching, freelancing, reviewing, editing, curating, publishing, podcasting, etc.) and the marketing required by each. This is not a writing course though some writing assignments are completed. The class will also assist with the business-side (marketing, resources, revenue) of the South Carolina High School Writing Contest in collaboration with SCHC 384.
