Call for Applications
The Journal of The First-Year Experience and Students in Transition Editorial Team invites applications for new Editorial Review Board members. We are seeking scholars and practitioners who are committed to advancing higher education research and practice focused on the first-year college experience, student transitions, and college student success. Editorial Board members play a vital role in the peer-review process and contribute to shaping the scholarly direction of the journal. We are particularly interested in scholars and practitioners with strong quantitative and/or mixed-methods expertise.
Application Requirements:
Interested individuals should submit:
- A one-page cover letter describing:
- Your interest in serving on the Editorial Board
- Your methodological expertise (qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods; analytical approaches; specialized methodological skills)
- Your content expertise related to the first-year experience, student transitions, student success and/or higher education
- A current curriculum vitae (CV)

Timeline:
- Application Deadline: Thursday, December 4 at 11:59 p.m. PST
- Term Start Date: January 1, 2026
- Term Length: 3 years (January 1, 2026-December 31, 2028)
Qualifications:
Members of the editorial review board:
- hold advanced degrees (Ph.D. or equivalent preferred)
- have a minimum of five years' experience in higher education
- are affiliated with an accredited college or university, and
- have expertise in quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods research design and analysis
Editorial review board members agree to:
- return reviews within six weeks of receipt
- assume a dual role of gatekeeper and shaper of research in the first-year experience and students in transition fields by providing a rigorous review of manuscripts submitted for publication
- offer constructive and encouraging feedback to mentor fellow researchers
