About the Board

The Journal of The First-Year Experience and Students in Transition Editorial Team invites applications for new Editorial Review Board members every fall. We seek scholars and practitioners who are committed to advancing higher education research and practice focused on the first-year college experience, student transitions, and college student success. Editorial Board members play a vital role in the peer-review process and contribute to shaping the scholarly direction of the journal. We are particularly interested in scholars and practitioners with strong quantitative expertise.

Throughout the year, Editorial Review Board members will receive recognition for their professional service and contributions to the Journal.

Eligibility

Members of the Editorial Review Board:

• Hold advanced degrees in higher education, student affairs, or a related field (Ph.D. or equivalent preferred)
• Have a minimum of five years' experience working in higher education roles that required substantive research, analytical, and/or methodological expertise
• Are affiliated with an accredited college or university
• Have expertise in quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods research design and analysis (*quantitative preferred for the 2026 recruitment cycle)

Responsibilities

Editorual Review Board members agree to:

• Serve a 3-year term on the Editorial Review Board
• Review approximately 4-6 manuscripts per year in a timely fashion (within 6 weeks of receipt)
• Assume a dual role of gatekeeper and shaper of research in the first-year experience and students in transition fields by providing a rigorous review of manuscripts submitted for publication
• Offer constructive and encouraging feedback to mentor fellow researchers
