Bonita C. Jacobs Transfer Impact Award

The National Resource Center for The First-Year Experience and Students in Transition presents the Bonita C. Jacobs Transfer Impact Award to individuals whose sustained leadership, scholarship, and/or advocacy have significantly shaped how institutions and systems support transfer students at the state, regional, or national level.

2026-27 Awards Campaign

Our 2026-27 awards campaign will kick off in late spring. Stay tuned for more information on how to nominate an exceptional colleague for the Excellence in Teaching First-Year Seminars award.

Overview

This award honors contributions that are both deep and enduring, as evident in the policies, practices, scholarship, or communities that the recipient has helped build or transform. 

What Recipients Will Receive 

  • Complimentary registration to the new in-person, transfer-focused conference planned for summer 2027
  • Recognition at the in-person transfer-focused conference, including the presentation of a plaque at the event 
  • Recognition in a forthcoming issue of the Center's online publication, Insights for College Transitions, and on the Center’s web page, social media channels, and press releases 

How We Select Recipients 

The selection committee will use an evaluation rubric to rate nominees’ efforts in three areas: organizational and policy change, field-building, and advocacy. The selection committee will include a panel composed of members of the Center’s Advisory Board, past award recipients, and other leaders in American higher education.

What Is Required of the Nomination Process 

  • Nomination Form and Supporting Letter 
  • One Additional Letter of Support 
  • Nominee’s Current Resume or CV 
  • Candidate Statement (not to exceed three pages) which addresses: 
    • The scope of the nominee’s contributions to transfer success, including meaningful and sustainable changes to policy, practice, or institutional structures that have resulted from their work
    • How the nominee has strengthened the transfer field’s knowledge base and professional capacity through research, mentorship, resource development, or training of professionals
    • How the nominee has influenced professionals, institutions, or systems to understand and support transfer students and to become advocates for transfer student success
