Bio

Background: Phyllis MacGilvray, MD, FAAFP recently joined Greenville Health System as Vice Chair for Academic Affairs in the Department of Family Medicine. She earned her bachelors from Clemson and medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. After completing her FM residency at University of Vermont (UVM), she taught as junior faculty at UVM and Eastern Virginia Medical School. While in Civil Service, Dr. MacGilvray focused on GME at Camp Lejeune FM Residency where she served as Assistant PD and PD before becoming the hospital’s Designated Institutional Official. The MacGilvray family moved to Texas in 2016 and Dr. MacGilvray held the position of Vice Chair for Medical Student Education in the Department of Family & Community Medicine at the University of Texas Health-San Antonio. As Associate Professor with UT Health San Antonio Long School of Medicine, she served on the Curriculum Committee, was Associate Clerkship Director, and was Director of FM elective rotations. Regionally, Dr. MacGilvray was active in the Texas Academy of Family Physicians’ Commission on Academic Affairs. Nationally, she is a member of the Prescribers’ Letter National Editorial Board Recommendations Panel, American Academy of Family Physicians, and the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine. She has written book chapters, a preclinical case for Case Files Collection, and presented at national conferences. Dr. MacGilvray completed the National Institute for Program Director Development Fellowship in 2012 and the AAMC’s Medical Education Research Certification program in 2018. An active clinician-educator, her passions are caring for patients of all ages and stages of life, teaching and mentoring medical students and residents, and attracting students to careers in Family Medicine.
