Our Journey
Welcome to the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville (SOMG)! It is my greatest honor to serve as Dean. As you explore our website, I invite you to discover our commitment to our mission: Educate. Innovate. Serve. Where Lifestyle is Medicine.
Since opening our doors in July 2012, SOMG has been dedicated to empowering the next generation of physicians through innovative teaching, cutting-edge technology, transformational research, and interprofessional collaboration. We strive to educate compassionate future physician leaders to deliver the highest quality patient care, enhancing the health and wellness of the communities we serve. Every day, our dedicated students train alongside our esteemed faculty, driven by curiosity and kindness. Together, we extend our commitment to patient care beyond our campus, engaging in community wellness initiatives that make a real difference in the Upstate.
As a young medical school, we are proud to be at the forefront of medical education. We are recognized as one of only two medical schools in the nation to earn the “Platinum Plus” certification from the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, reflecting our commitment to lifestyle medicine and evidence-based interventions for chronic disease prevention and treatment. In addition, our new Primary Care Accelerated Track (PCAT) program aims to address the shortage of primary care physicians in South Carolina.
As I reflect on my journey since joining SOMG in 2018, I am continually inspired by the passion, integrity, and leadership of our students, faculty, and staff. The journey continues. We strive for the highest standards in all we do to transform medical education, research, and patient care, and foster a culture of belonging and equity, valuing each person's unique contributions.
I encourage you to envision yourself as part of our vibrant community, whether you are a prospective student, a current learner, a faculty member, or a community partner. Your role is vital in shaping the future of healthcare, and together, we can make a meaningful impact.
Thank you for your interest in SOMG. I look forward to the journey ahead as we educate, innovate, and serve together. I invite you to explore our website to discover more about the outstanding learning environment we provide. Where Lifestyle Is Medicine!
Warm Regards,
