their academic goals and finding balance in their journey as developing medical learners.
Overview of SASS programs and activites
Pre-Clerkship Preparation (M1 & M2 Years)
M1 and M2 students can expect frequent interaction with the SASS team, as resources
and strategies change with each new module of material and pace of the course. Topics
include productivity and time management; mastering material, test-taking strategies,
and identification of high-yield material.
Step 1 Preparation
At the end of M2 year, students will take the Step 1 Exam before entering the clinical
learning environment of M3 year. SASS offers an array of support to M2s as they plan
and prepare for their first dedicated study period and subsequent medical school board
examination. Programming covers scheduling your Step 1 exam, utilizing practice questions
effectively, selecting the appropriate practice exams, and building a realistic dedicated
study period schedule.
SASS also addresses a student’s health needs. Throughout the academic year, students
may attend any of a variety of events teaching them to manage their mental health.
SASS also provides opportunities for them to address the increasing stress of their
dedicated study period by way group somatic therapeutic sessions and peer advice panels.
Clinical Learning Environment & Shelf Exam Preparation
Students in their M3 year transition to the clinical learning environment, requiring
a new set of skills. Caring for patients comes with a lot of responsibility and working
in the clinical learning environment.
Step 2 Preparation
The final board exam for medical students is completed during the M4 year. SASS supports
students in the planning and assessing their dedicated Step 2 study plan in order
to achieve the score for their desired specialty. Focus is on utilizing practice exam
data to address knowledge gaps and enhance test-taking strategies.
