Dan is the majority owner of multiple private companies, serving on the board and/or in a Corporate level operating role.
Mr. Adams founded The Capital Corporation in 1991 as an investment banking firm focusing on mergers and acquisitions to the middle market. Since the firm's founding, Mr. Adams has led The Capital Corporation to become one of the largest and most influential merger and acquisition boutiques in the Southeast, qualifying to be one of five investment banks in the United States to be a member of global network IMAP. With over 30 years of experience in finance, Mr. Adams has participated in over 200 merger and acquisition transactions during his career. Mr. Adams has advised companies in various sectors including, finance, health care, manufacturing, service, home décor, restaurant, transportation, waste industries and others.
In addition to serving as president and CEO of The Capital Corporation, Mr. Adams continues to be an active private equity investor with a portfolio of companies across a broad range of industries, including: Rowley Company, a leading company in the window treatment industry with a global footprint; several consumer finance companies; several restaurant franchises of family restaurant concepts; Access One Consumer Health, a national Discount Medical Plan organization; and several additional companies in the financial technology, business finance sectors.
Mr. Adams currently serves on the University of South Carolina Board of Trustees and recently served on the South Carolina Ports Authority Board of Directors. In 2015, Mr. Adams was appointed to Board of Directors of the USC Upstate Foundation. This Foundation oversees Foundation fund-raising efforts, makes grants to the University for strategic initiatives and manages endowment funds. He has previously served on the Spartanburg County Commission for Higher Education. The Commission plays a participatory and advisory role for USC.
Active in civic affairs, Mr. Adams currently serves on several nonprofit boards including, President of the Greenville Symphony, and The Rose Ball. He previously served as Chairman for the Upstate Heart Ball and Chairman of Palmetto Promise Institute. He has served on the boards for, Artisphere Festival, the Baptist Courier, Public Education Partners, USC Upstate, the Boys and Girls Club of the Upstate, The Greenville County Museum of Art. He was a past President of the South Carolina Investor’s Network (SCIN).
Mr. Adams was the recipient of the 2008 Distinguished Alumnus of the Year Award presented by the University of South Carolina Upstate in recognition of his many professional accomplishments and philanthropic work. In 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018, he was named one of Greenville’s 50 Most Influential People and inducted into Greenville’s 50 Most Influential People Hall of Fame in 2019.
Prior to founding The Capital Corporation, Mr. Adams was with C&S National Bank for 12 years and is a graduate of University of South Carolina Upstate and the Banking School of the South at Louisiana State University.
Mr. Adams is an active and committed alumnus of USC Upstate and supports the University with philanthropic gifts and service. He is a member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg.
