Message from Our Chief Culture, Access, & Stakeholder Engagement Officer
Greetings SOMG community and stakeholders,
It is an extreme pleasure and privilege to serve as your inaugural Chief Culture, Access, & Stakeholder Engagement (CASE) Officer here at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville.
Consistent with the mission and vision of the University of South Carolina and our medical school, we realize and embrace the importance of ensuring that inclusive excellence is at the core of everything we do. Our office’s central charge is to maintain a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for all of our faculty, staff, and students. We work as a strategic partner in infusing inclusivity into the fabric of our institution. Specifically, focusing on how culture (how individuals experience our campus and learning environments), access (providing necessary resources, opportunities, and support), and stakeholder engagement (increasing curiosity, passion, and commitment to our medical school) guide our efforts.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. reminded us that “of all forms of inequality, injustice in healthcare is the most shocking and inhumane”. Thus, our ultimate duty is to ensure that our future physicians are adequately prepared to enter a diverse workforce, provide compassionate, high-quality care in meeting unique patient needs, and improve access to care for our communities.
We have work to do, and we invite all of our stakeholders to join us in this important and courageous journey!
