USC Division of IT partners with BoodleBox to expand responsible, sustainable AI access

USC Division of IT is expanding access to responsible AI tools across campus through a new partnership with BoodleBox.

BoodleBox is now an approved vendor in the IT Purchasing Portal, allowing colleges and departments to purchase licenses directly from BoodleBox, which helps streamline adoption and ensures consistent support.

The opportunity

BoodleBox offers a collaborative AI workspace that supports teaching, learning and research. Early faculty engagement has demonstrated strong potential for enhancing students’ understanding of proper GenAI use.

“The best way to introduce students to proper use of GenAI is creating a collaborative learning environment,” said HRSM Professor Drew Martin. “My first BoodleBox demonstration convinced me that the product was an ideal learning platform for teaching and learning. I am happy to see a growing number of my colleagues feel the same way.”

From individual classrooms to campus‑wide strategy, the value of this partnership is becoming increasingly clear.

“The University of South Carolina is making a bold statement about what responsible AI adoption looks like in higher education. By prioritizing equitable access across campus while simultaneously considering the environmental impact of their technology choices, USC is demonstrating that innovation and responsibility can coexist—that you can make AI tools genuinely accessible without compromising on sustainability,” said Sean Traigle, Executive Vice President at BoodleBox. “That's the kind of institutional courage that raises the bar for institutions everywhere.”

Institutional perspective

USC leaders say the move strengthens both innovation and governance.

“Making BoodleBox available through our standard purchasing pathways reinforces our commitment to responsible AI, equitable access and secure implementation,” said Brice Bible, Vice President for Information Technology & Chief Information Officer. “This partnership supports the university's broader strategy to empower academic and administrative units with tools that are both powerful and aligned with our values.”

What’s next

  • Units can now procure licenses directly through BoodleBox, since they’re an approved vendor.
  • The Division of IT and BoodleBox will collaborate on onboarding resources and best‑practice guidance.
  • Additional training opportunities will be announced in the coming weeks.

Challenge the conventional. Create the exceptional. No Limits.
