Upgrades to Blackboard System Begins Dec. 20

Beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 20, Blackboard will be updated to the new Ultra Base Navigation.

The Division of Information Technology is working to make employee's access to university systems more user-friendly and efficient. On April 1, 2019, many improvements to Human Resources and payroll systems will be introduced, along with easier ways to manage an individual employee's account profile information.

Paul Sagona to Lead Research Computing

The Division of Information Technology is pleased to announce that Paul Sagona has been named the Executive Director of Research Computing.

Pilot of Guest Wireless Begins in Thomas Cooper Library

A time limit will be placed on the amount of time an individual remains logged into the guest portal, similar to practices at retail locations such as coffee shops, shopping malls, and grocery stores. Students and employees are encouraged to use USCfacstaff and USCstudent, which are secure portals.

Upgrades to Blackboard System Begins Dec. 21

The Division of Information Technology and Blackboard Managed Hosting will perform the annual Blackboard Upgrade on December 21 starting at 5 PM. The upgrade will take 24-36 hours, and Blackboard will be unavailable during this time.

IMAP and POP3 Servers to be Blocked on Oct. 18

In order to improve information security throughout the Columbia campus, IMAP and POP3 servers will be disabled beginning October 18, 2018. IMAP and POP3 are older methods used by computers to access email messages from a remote server.

Don't Provide Personal Info Through Email Links!

The university has seen a spike in phishing emails. Phishing is an email fraud method used by hackers and thieves to lure unsuspecting recipients into providing personal information.

New Spam Email Filter for Faculty and Staff

The email Spam filter will be replaced with a new tool on June 2, 2018. The new FireEye tool will be more effective.
