Parking and Transportation Services handles registration for all vehicles parked on campus and manages the university's parking policies and regulations. Faculty have options of a parking permit or for reserved garage parking. The length of time you've been working at USC is used to determine permit eligibility. Establish a parking account on the Parking Portal for permits and payment methods available to you, including pre-tax payroll deductions. Faculty and Staff Gateway
Use the Faculty and Staff Gateway to connect to everything you need across sc.edu. Review your benefits or access the internal Web pages for your specific unit or division. Find valuable teaching and research resources, including the Center for Teaching Excellence. Check your email, find forms for student advising, catch up on the latest announcements, or read interesting stories about UofSC faculty, staff, and students. It’s all available on the Faculty and Staff Gateway.
Your Network Username is assigned to you at the start of your employment. Your Network Username will be required for access to the wired and wireless networks, university email, and some departmental systems. You will need to establish a password for your Network Username at myaccount.sc.edu.
The VIP ID is an eight-digit number that is assigned to you become an employee. It is used to log in to Self Service Carolina. Faculty may use Self Service Carolina to review class rosters, assign grades and obtain student contact information.
The USC ID is a unique combination of letters and numbers used to securely identify you in university systems. It is assigned to you when you become employed by the university. The USC ID is not used to log in to a system. It is an identification number only. Your USC ID is a 9-digit ID that begins with an alpha character. It is located on the back of your CarolinaCard.
Your CarolinaCard is your all-in-one passport to campus life at the University of South Carolina. The CarolinaCard is your permanent UofSC ID card plus a flexible-spending declining balance card. The CarolinaCard serves as personal identification and provides access to many campus buildings and services, as well as numerous off-campus merchants. Faculty need the CarolinaCard to use the University Libraries, the PE Center, utilize CarolinaCash accounts, and for other campus services.
Save time standing in line to get your CarolinaCard by using CarolinaCard Online to upload your photo and accept our cardholder agreement online. You will be notified when your ID is ready to be picked up at the Russell House. You'll need your Network Username and Password or VIP ID and Password to log in. Multifactor Authentication is required.
If you prefer to register for your card in person, the CarolinaCard office is located in the basement of the Russell House on Greene Street, across from the student post office. We encourage you to save yourself some time by uploading your photo and signing the cardholder agreement beforehand. To verify your identity, you must provide one of the following at the time your card is made:
- United States Driver’s License
- Military ID
When you start working at UofSC, your spouse or partner is eligible for a CarolinaCard. Visit the Who Is Eligible page on the CarolinaCard website for eligibility, requirements and instructions.
UofSC recognizes that recruitment of talented faculty and staff requires the expansion of benefit/privilege options for family members of our employees. Currently, only spouses of faculty and staff enjoy library privileges at the University of South Carolina. The university offers library privileges, and the option to purchase a Blatt PE or Strom Thurmond Wellness Center gym membership to those individuals designated as a PlusOne cardholder. The PlusOne ID card allows faculty and staff employees to sponsor one other individual living in the same household as a PlusOne cardholder. In order to be qualified for designation as a PlusOne cardholder, the cardholder must be 18 years old or older, reside continuously with the university employee, and not be in a land-lord/tenant relationship with the university employee.

Division of Information Technology
The Division of Information Technology (DoIT) offers a variety of services to support the teaching, research, and public service goals of the University of South Carolina. A few examples of these services include Network Services, Information Security, Blackboard and Video Conferencing. DOIT's Information for Faculty webpage has information on IDs and Security, IT Services, Employee Discounts, IT Support and Teaching and Learning Resources. DoIT offers an online Knowledge Base for immediate access to self-service support information and documentation. University email accounts are automatically provisioned for faculty during the employment onboarding process. The university uses Microsoft Exchange, and you may access your email using MS Outlook or through Office 365 online. You will use your Network Username and password to login. The university uses Multifactor Authentication (MFA) for accessing emails accounts.
Computer and information security begins with YOU! As a faculty member, it is critical you implement and practice information security on your digital systems. We urge you to visit the DoIT' Information Security site to learn about information security. The site maintains a library of helpful videos, links, and tips, as well as ways to receive assistance from our cybersecurity professionals.
Multifactor Authentication (MFA) is a secure dual authentication system required to access university applications that store Personal Identifiable Information (PII), such as Banner, PeopleSoft, VIP, iTAMS, my.sc.edu, and more. MFA requires you to confirm your identity via text or phone, but you can also use Duo Security – an app that can be used on your smartphone. You can download the free Duo Security app to your smartphone from the app store for your system – just search for “Duo Security.” Visit Multifactor Authentication for more information.
The university campus network has both wired and wireless networking. You connect your machine to the University network via an Ethernet cable from a wall data jack to your computer. All buildings and most outdoor common areas of the Columbia campus have wireless access. Parking and Transportation
You have a lot to navigate during your time at UofSC. The university wants to make your parking and vehicle tasks on campus as simple as possible. The Parking and Transportation Services office handles everything from registering your vehicle, leasing a UofSC vehicle, paying a parking ticket or looking for the nearest place to catch the shuttle.
There is no additional charge for parking a motorcycle, moped or motor scooter if you already have a regular permit for a garage or lot. You may park anytime in designated MC areas. You may not park in automobile spaces, at meters or at bicycle racks. Please do not store your motorcycle or motor scooter inside of a building on campus, or it will be impounded.
Many faculty enjoy riding a bicycle, if they live close enough to campus. All cyclists who park their bikes on campus are required to register their bikes. Identification decals are also required on bicycles to discourage theft and help recover the bike if it's stolen. Bicycle registrations are available to any students, faculty or staff.
Always lock your bike when unattended. You can secure your bike to one of the racks located around campus. Parking Services will remove bikes secured to anything that isn't a designated bicycle rack. Please don't park where your bike will block pedestrian traffic. Two weeks after May graduation, university police will impound all abandoned or unregistered bikes. The university is not responsible for damage to these bicycles or their locks.
The University Shuttle has 30 locations on six different routes to make campus transit more convenient. And the ride is free! While the Carolina Shuttle does not run on a set schedule, you can catch a bus on each route nearly every 15 minutes. Each bus is color-coded to match its route and shuttle stop.
The Day Shuttle and the Evening Shuttle run Monday-Friday while class is in session. Visit Shuttles on the Parking and Transportation Services website for times and routes.

If you’re out after dark, Safe Evening Rides can arrange for a vehicle to pick you up and take you to your destination. This is a complimentary service offered to all university faculty, staff, and students.
You can cheer for the Gamecocks any time they play in the capital city, and the ride is free! Gameday Shuttles are scheduled to get you to and from university athletic events from several locations near campus. Show your ID, and the shuttle ride is free. All other passengers pay $3 round trip. Call 803-777-1439 for information about season passes.
All Gamecock Athletic events have a clear bag policy. Make sure you are riding with an approved bag. Non-approved bags are not permitted at ticketed Gamecock athletic events.
