There are multiple ways to adapt classes to provide safety and social distancing. All course delivery models will differ in effectiveness, feasibility, and implementation options depending on the type of course and pedagogy style being used. Units are encouraged to be creative and flexible in course design and delivery modality, not only for a pivot if one is needed, but also for students who may not be able to attend due to health or domestic situations, or faculty who have to self-isolate or quarantine for a time. 

This resource provides units with a comparison among eight options for course delivery modalities. Courses may include undergraduate, graduate, clinical, or professional courses. The eight modalities range from fully face-to-face with the course split into sections for social distancing through a spectrum of variations on flexible and hybrid models, to fully synchronous and asynchronous options. Benefits and challenges, examples, selected research and additional resources are presented for each model.

For units that decide to incorporate an online component, additional detailed information and resources are provided for planning the online curriculum, designing the course and organizing content, creating instructional content, building the course in Blackboard and teaching the course online. Choices as to a delivery model must be worked out with a unit's scheduling coordinator to indicate meeting dates and times on the Master Course Schedule so students can know in advance the class requirements and plan their academic schedule accordingly.
