Mission
The mission of the PreMed Partners Program (P3) is to strengthen South Carolina’s
future physician workforce by providing comprehensive support to undergraduate students
on their path to medical school. Through academic preparation, personal development,
and medical school readiness, P3 empowers aspiring physicians to succeed and serve
local communities, addressing the state’s critical physician shortage and improve
health outcomes.
Vision
South Carolina faces a significant physician shortage, with projections indicating
a deficit of thousands of doctors, particularly in primary care. We strive to increase
representation in medicine by expanding the number of future physicians who have the
desire, passion, and familiarity to provide care for marginalized patient populations.
By changing the landscape of those who deliver care in South Carolina, we aim to improve
overall health across the state.
The Program
P3 supports students from sophomore year through graduation, helping them successfully
navigate the path to medical school. The overarching goal of the P3 Program is to
restructure and enhance support systems that strengthen academic skills, develop individualized
medical school plans, and provide professional development, networking, and mentoring
opportunities. This comprehensive approach is designed to increase the success rate
of students gaining acceptance to medical school or other health professions programs.
Three Pillars of the P3 Program
Academic Preparedness
Academic strengths and weaknesses are identified using tools such as the LASSI Inventory,
followed by targeted support to enhance study skills, course performance, and exam
readiness.
Personal Preparedness
Self-awareness, resilience, and confidence are developed through assessments such
as Clifton Strengths and Professionalism Training—essential traits for success in
medical school and beyond.
Medical School Readiness
Advisors support students with the necessary resources to develop an individualized
medical school plan to evaluate their application readiness through review and evaluation
of their academics, clinical experience, research, leadership, and extracurriculars
to ensure a smooth transition to medical school.
