Bio
| Background: | I grew up the son of a family physician in Laurens, SC. I remember going on house calls with my father and making rounds with him as a child. I saw how he cared for the community both in and out of his office. I initially pursued a career in engineering but after several years realized that my calling was medicine. I obtained my medical degree from USC-SOM in Columbia. I then traveled to the Texas-Mexico border for residency training in a faith based Family Medicine Residency program. After residency, I stayed on as a faculty member at the program for twelve years. During that time, I had multiple roles from overseeing medical student rotations to serving as the Associate Program Director. While in South Texas, I also served as the Chief of Family Medicine, Physician Advisor for Case Management, and Physician Advisor for Quality Management at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Tx. After living on the border for 15 years, my wife, our three boys, and I moved "home" to the Upstate of SC. I am now the program director of the new Prisma Health/University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville - Family Medicine Program (Greer). It is a new community program located on the Prisma Health Greer Campus. Our program is focused on training competent, caring, community-oriented family physicians. |
