Bio
Background: | Saundra S Spruiell, DO, DABVLM, FAVLS, RPVI is known for her dedication to the improvement of patient outcomes through evidence-based medicine. Twenty years ago, as the only full-time vein doctor in her Oklahoma community, she recognized the need for education and standardization among physicians treating venous disorders. This prompted her involvement on multiple committees within the American Vein & Lymphatic Society including ascension to the society’s Board of Directors, leadership within a quality improvement organization and the incorporation of clinical research into her medical practice. She was recruited to South Carolina by the Prisma Health Department of Vascular Medicine & Vascular Surgery to assist with their mission of providing venous and lymphatic care to the Upstate, to perform research in venous disease and to assist with development of a medical fellowship dedicated to venous and lymphatic medicine. Dr. Spruiell is a clinical assistant professor of surgery at the University of South Carolina Medical School-Greenville. Dr. Spruiell has authored and co-authored medical textbooks and published articles related to the diagnosis and treatment of venous disease and the business of managing a phlebology practice. She is the Associate Director of the Vein & Lymphatic Medicine Fellowship at the University of South Carolina, Greenville/Prisma Health-Upstate. She is Board Certified by the American Board of Venous & Lymphatic Medicine and is a distinguished Fellow of the American Vein & Lymphatic Society. She is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University and Michigan State University. Clinical interests within her practice in Greenville are the treatment venous insufficiency and varicose veins, cosmetic spider vein injections, deep vein thrombosis and post thrombotic syndrome, venous leg ulcerations and procedural treatment of venous insufficiency by endovenous & image guided techniques. |
