Richard D. Adams Lecture in Inorganic Chemistry

The Richard D. Adams Lecture in Inorganic Chemistry was established in 2025 to honor the distinguished Prof. Adams and the many contributions he made to inorganic and organometallic chemistry.

Prof. Richard Adams joined the faculty of the University of South Carolina in 1984 and maintained a highly active research lab in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry for 42 years until his retirement in 2026. He received the Southeastern Universities Research Association Distinguished Scientist Award in 2011 and the university Mungo Graduate Teaching Award in 2018. He made an immeasurable impact on the lives of graduate students and supervised 49 Ph.D. students.

Richard D. Adams received his B.S. from Pennsylvania State University in 1969 and his Ph.D. from MIT in 1973. His many honors and awards include the ACS Award for Inorganic Chemistry (1999), the Henry J. Albert Award (2005), and the ACS Award for Distinguished Service in the Advancement of Inorganic Chemistry (2010). He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (2003). Throughout his career Professor Adams authored or coauthored over 600 scientific papers. Prof. Adams served as a regional editor of the Journal of Organometallic Chemistry for 20 years then served as its editor-in-chief from 2017-2026.
