Sad News! Hui's postdoc advisor, Prof. Paul F. Barbara, passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2010 in Austin from complications following a cardiac arrest. Paul was the Richard J.V. Johnson-R. A. Welch Regents Chair in Chemistry at the University of Texas at Austin. His laboratory developed and applied novel ultrafast and single molecule spectroscopies to study complex chemical systems, such as organic semi-conductors for photovoltaic applications, proton and electron transfer reactions,and intermediates in the reverse transcription of HIV-1. We will remember Paul for ever. |

Hui is back in town from China. From May 9 to May 24, he visited Jiangsu University, Southeast University, Nanjing University, Xiamen University, and Soochow University in China and gave seminars entitled "Nanoscale architecturing inside a cuprous oxide wrapper: a way to achieve geometrically tunable optical properties" at these universities. |

Hui attended ACS National Meeting in Denver, Colorado, and gave a presentation on "Cuprous Oxide Nanoshells Exhibit Geometrically Tunable Optical Properties". There was a special symposium in memory of Prof. Paul Barbara (Hui's postdoc adviser) in Physical Chemistry division. Very nice to see all the Barbarians there. |
