First-Generation Celebration Week 2023

Dear First-Generation Student,

In recognition of First-Generation Celebration Week (Nov. 6-10, 2023) at the University of South Carolina, I want to send my congratulations to you for the commitment you have demonstrated in choosing to seek a college education.

Like you, I enrolled in college as the first in my family to pursue higher education, and this was the first step toward building a foundation for my future career. In fact, many of our USC leaders were also first-generation college students, and we appreciate and applaud the effort you are putting forth to earn your degree.

You have set an important goal for yourself, and your university has academic, financial and other on-campus resources available to empower you and help you succeed.

During First-Generation Celebration Week, the university has planned activities and events to celebrate you and your journey to completing your degree. The week will include:

• Headshots on the Horseshoe – No-cost headshots to use as you apply for internships, jobs, and other opportunities
• Breakfast with campus leaders and fellow first-gen students
• “Speed Friending” – Build a network of friends to connect with you here at USC and beyond
• Movie Night with your first-gen community
• Celebration Day to cap off the week on Friday at Davis Field

I hope you will take advantage of these activities and resources during First-Generation Week. We are invested in your success, and we look forward to seeing what you will achieve at the University of South Carolina!
