Research Focus Areas
Faculty from a diverse range of disciplines participate in research to benefit the people of South Carolina, the nation and the world by tackling challenges in the areas of health care, the environment, alternative energy sources and the creation of advanced materials.
Our faculty garnered an average of nearly $240 million in sponsored awards over the past five years. This collaborative group includes 25 SmartState endowed chairs, internationally recognized leaders who are changing the world through cutting-edge research in fields ranging from fuel cells to tourism.

Facilities and Resources
We have dozens of laboratories and other facilities available for use by researchers, from the Mass Spectrometry Lab on campus to the Baruch Marine Field Laboratory on the S.C. coast. We also provide our researchers broad administrative support from grant proposal writing to IT and data management.
