Before you hit the books, we want you to become familiar with the campus resources available to you and all of the ways that you can get involved. Welcome Week introduces you to the people, organizations and services that will make your college experience more engaging and purposeful.
University Signature Events
The University of South Carolina is a place of near-constant activity. Beginning with your move-in week and culminating with commencement, the university hosts a broad spectrum of experiences that inform, educate and entertain the members of the Carolina community.
New students and their families are invited to join President Harris Pastides for a ceremony that commemorates your transition as a new member of the Carolina family. The reception that follows is a great way to meet the president, university administrators and fellow students.
Also known as Celebrate Carolina, the marching band and refreshments make this a festive gathering held at the beginning of the fall semester. President Harris Pastides recognizes the contributions of students, faculty and staff during the previous year and shares his vision for the university's future.
Immerse yourself in the Carolina Community during our annual Family Weekend. Spend a few days getting to know the city and campus, meet fellow family members and students, and cheer on the Gamecocks at Williams-Brice Stadium as they take on the Missouri Tigers in an SEC matchup for the ages.
Homecoming is a special time that unifies alumni and current students. There are a variety of ways to get involved during this fun week of events, including the annual Homecoming Cup competition and the selection of our king and queen through the Homecoming Showcase.
For more than 30 years, we have honored the life of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. The university celebrates his achievements and community focus with a wide-ranging week of activities, including a commemorative breakfast, a day of service, a food drive and presentation of the university’s Social Justice Awards.
Commencement exercises are held in May and December each year. President Harris Pastides presides over the official ceremonies, which include Carolina’s tradition of honoring each degree candidate by name.
