Abstract

This article focuses on past and present research studies that examined the creation of developmental theories to help understand how students develop while in college. The implications of this manuscript include understanding how the diversity of today’s student body influences practice, considering the appropriate knowledge base needed to serve first-year and transitions programs, and identifying strategies to engage students in a manner that promotes their development.
