The need to construct new laboratory facilities and to modernize or upgrade existing lab facilities can occur due to evolving research and hiring of new USC faculty. New and upgraded research laboratories are required to be designed in compliance with existing safety regulations, standards, policies and guidelines. The EH&S Research Safety Bureau has prepared these Laboratory Design and Construction Guidelines to assist faculty, staff, Facilities and other lab design professionals to recognize safety and compliance issues that must be considered during the planning and design process.
