Hazardous Waste Training

Mandatory training is required annually for all University of South Carolina personnel who work with all types of chemicals. This training will assist all personnel with managing waste within their areas as well as providing updates on state and federal regulations.

Topics covered in training

  • Hazardous waste determination in the laboratory
  • Characteristics identification for each container of waste material.
  • Waste container, storage, and tagging requirements for all hazardous waste locations.
  • Spill cleanup procedures and emergency response.

Initial Training

  1. Select the class you would like to attend from the schedule, and follow the instructions to register.
  2. After attending the initial classroom training session, you will be added to the EHS Training Organization in Blackboard.
  3. Under the section "Hazardous Waste Initial Training Course," a copy of the same training PowerPoint presentation will be available along with the quiz.
  4. You have unlimited attempts to pass the quiz. The quiz will be graded automatically after each attempt. At least an 80% score is needed to pass the quiz.
  5. Each trainee is responsible for keeping a copy of their own scores from Blackboard and taking the refresher course annually afterwards. The copy of the passing score will serve as the certificate.

Refresher Training

Refresher courses are not being posted at this time to ensure that everyone is current and has taken the initial hazardous waste training in person and has a score posted in blackboard. Initial hazardous wasted training classes will be offered more frequently based on the current need for the training.
