Hazardous Waste Training

Mandatory training is required annually for all University of South Carolina personnel who work with hazardous chemicals. This training assists personnel with managing waste within their areas as well as updates on state and federal regulations. 

Topics covered in training

  • Hazardous waste determination and characteristics identification.
  • Waste storage requirements for each designated location.
  • Container disposal and requesting new containers. 
  • Spill cleanup procedures and emergency response.
  • Minimization of hazardous waste

 

Initial Training

** If you have never received hazardous waste training, you must attend an initial classroom training session. **

  1. Select the class you would like to attend from the schedule, and follow the instructions to register.
  2. After attending the initial classroom training session, you will receive a link to take the inital quiz online.  
  3. The same training powerpoint presentation is attached in the email link for the quiz for review. 
  4. If you obtain a passing score; a certificate will be sent to your provided email. You have unlimited attempts to pass the quiz
  5. Each trainee is responsible for keeping a copy of their own certificate in the lab binder and ensuring its current.

 

Main Campus Refresher Training

After initial classroom training has been completed, the annual refresher training requirement may be met by reviewing the Main Campus training  powerpoint and completing the Hazardous Waste Refresher Quiz with a passing score.

 

School of Medicine Refresher Training

After initial classroom training has been completed, the annual refresher training requirement may be met by reviewing the SOM training  video and completing the Hazardous Waste Refresher Quiz with a passing score.
