Hazardous Waste Training

A mandatory training is required for all University of South Carolina personnel who work with hazardous chemicals, so that they may learn to manage the waste they generate. This training must be repeated annually.

Topics covered in training

  • Rules of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)
  • Hazardous waste identification, storage and disposal
  • Emergency response (chemical spills, personnel exposure, etc.)
  • Minimization of hazardous waste

 

Initial Training

If you have never received hazardous waste training, you must attend an initial classroom training session, presented by EHS at various locations around campus or via Microsoft Teams.

  1. Select the class you would like to attend from the schedule, and follow the instructions to register.
  2. After attending the initial classroom training session, you will receive a link to take the inital quiz online.  
  3. If you need to review the initial hazardous waste training powerpoint presentation before taking the quiz or to review some of the topics covered in the training, the link is provided above.
  4. If you obtain a passing score, a certificate will be sent to your provided email. You have unlimited attempts to pass the quiz
  5. Keep a copy of your certificate in the lab binder.

 

 

Main Campus Refresher Training

After initial classroom training has been completed, the annual refresher training requirement may be met by reviewing the Main Campus training  powerpoint and completing the Hazardous Waste Refresher Quiz with a passing score.

 

School of Medicine Refresher Training

After initial classroom training has been completed, the annual refresher training requirement may be met by reviewing the SOM training  video and completing the Hazardous Waste Refresher Quiz with a passing score.
