Beth Brigdon named Interim Vice President of Information Technology and CIO

Recently named Interim Vice President for Information Technology and CIO, Beth Brigdon comes to the University of South Carolina with the knowledge and experience needed to lead IT as the university initiates a national search for a permanent VP/CIO.

Access to TikTok Platform No Longer Supported on USC's System Networks

Due to ongoing security concerns on a state, federal and international level, the USC system’s networks will no longer support access to the TikTok social media platform.

Deletion of Blackboard Collaborate Ultra Recordings

all Blackboard Collaborate Ultra recordings that were created before Aug. 16, 2020 will be deleted on December 15, 2023. Faculty who need to keep recordings that were created before Aug. 16, 2020 should request help transferring recordings to Panopto.

Wi-Fi and Switching Upgrades on the Columbia Campus

The Division of IT is aware of wireless issues affecting classroom and administrative buildings across the Columbia campus. While work continues to improve wireless connectivity in the short-term, the division is currently executing a long-range plan to improve a large segment of the wireless and network switching infrastructure across campus.

Hyperion High Performance Cluster Phase III in Production

Phase III of the Hyperion High Performance Computing cluster has been installed, tested, configured, and placed into production. This increases Hyperion's theoretical peak performance in quadrillion floating-point operations per second and increases the number of computing cores.

Microsoft to Retire Wiki Feature in Teams

Microsoft is retiring the Wiki feature in Teams and replacing it with OneNote. Any data stored in Wikis must be migrated to OneNote by June 2023.

Widespread outages with wired & wireless network connectivity are under investigation. The issues are also affecting some telephone services. Technicians are working to restore service as quickly as possible. Updates will be provided here.

Additional Wired and Wireless Network Improvements Begin in May

Phase 2 of the upgrade to the wired and wireless networks on the Columbia campus is scheduled to begin on May 13, 2023. When the work is completed, users should see an improved experience using both the wired and wireless networks in select classroom and administrative buildings.

Scheduled Maintenance to Virtual Desktop Service

The Virtual Desktop Service will be unavailable while critical maintenance is performed. The service will be unavailable from 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 29 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 30, 2023.
