All students are required to take the ALEKS PPL Math Placement in a proctored setting.
USC offers several proctoring options to provide flexibility while maintaining academic
integrity according to USC's Carolinian Creed.

Proctoring Options
Online Proctoring
You may complete the ALEKS PPL assessment online using Respondus Monitor at any time,
day or night. Be sure to take it at least seven (7) days before your advising appointment.
The assessment usually takes 60-90 minutes but allows you up to 2.5 hours. You can
take it from home while being securely proctored through your computer’s webcam and
microphone.
When you're ready, log-in to ALEKS at the link above. Only use this link to access
the Math Placement test.
The online proctoring option requires...
A reliable internet connection and a webcam
A computer that allows you to download Respondus software. Instructions for using Respondus Monitor are included in ALEKS
A quiet, private testing environment, without family or friends present
Other Proctoring Options:
Currently enrolled students will need to take the ALEKS PPL Math Placement assessment
in person at the USC Math Lab.
A computer will be provided for you.
Available on a scheduled basis
Space may be limited—early planning is encouraged
Provides an on‑campus testing environment with staff support
You must submit your request online for consideration.
Students who are unable to test online or on campus may arrange to take the assessment
at a USC‑approved testing center near their location.
The tesing location must be approved by USC in advance. You must submit your request
online for consideration.
Additional fees may apply, depending on the center
Students are responsible for scheduling and coordination with USC’s proctoring coordinator.
During the summer, in‑person testing options may be available only as a last resort
for students who cannot take it from home, have disability accommodations, or who
may have experienced technical problems with their home computer.
