VIDEO: UofSC receives $1.9M to build technology incubator

Entrepreneurs in South Carolina have a place on campus to get their businesses off the ground. The U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration has awarded the University of South Carolina a $1.9 million grant to build a technology incubator.

The 50,000-square-foot USC Columbia Technology Incubator will be built on Catawba Street in the university's Innovista district and is expected to create close to 700 jobs. Bill Kirkland, executive director of the center and of USC's Office of Economic Engagement says the project will generate $11.9 million dollars in private investment in the first five years.

UofSC President Harris Pastides says this startup center provides many opportunities for students and faculty to grow.
