COVID-19 Employee Relief Fund

Our UofSC community is steadily returning to more normal conditions, but some of our university family continues to struggle with the lasting impacts of lost work hours, lost family income, rising medical bills and more, due to the pandemic. The UofSC COVID-19 Employee Emergency Relief Fund has raised more than $51,000 since it was launched in the spring of 2020 and has made 63 awards to help staff members in need. But there remain more than 50 requests for assistance, and all available funds are depleted.

If you can, please consider making a gift to help your fellow UofSC employees through their ongoing financial hardships.

For more information about how the relief fund can help, visit the Division of Human Resources website.

Here are a few reasons that our colleagues need our help:

“I have been trying to stay above water. I was laid off for two months, me and my husband both. I have used up my savings to try to pay my bills.”

“Electric and water bill have gone up since COVID-19, food bill has gone up due to being home for two months of pandemic, exhausting most of my sick leave.”

“As my time and supplies dwindled, I began quietly worrying about food, etc. … Slowly but surely, the stress and anxiety got the best of me, and I ended up in the hospital for a few days. … I am still climbing out of the hole.”

“My current paycheck is not enough to cover rent, his medical bills and our normal household bills. Some temporary relief is needed, if it’s still available.”
