The University of South Carolina and Clemson University wrapped up their 30th annual blood drive, resulting in the seventh consecutive win for UofSC.

The 2014 Carolina-Clemson Blood Drive took place on both campuses Nov. 17-21 with students, staff, faculty and fans showing support for their favorite team by donating blood.

This year’s event resulted in 6,896 donors presenting to give blood. Carolina supporters totaled 4,103, or 16.9 percent of the undergraduate population, while Clemson supporters totaled 2,793, or 16.5 percent of the undergraduate population.

UofSC will be awarded the blood drive trophy at the Carolina-Clemson football game Saturday, Nov. 29, at Clemson Memorial Stadium.

Over the past 30 years of competition, the universities have collected approximately 100,000 pints of blood, potentially helping approximately 300,000 patients in need.

Eligible donors can still show their Gamecock pride and receive a commemorative Carolina-Clemson Blood Drive T-shirt by giving blood now through Nov. 30 at participating blood drives in the Columbia area and at the American Red Cross Columbia Blood Donation Center, 2751 Bull St. To make an appointment, download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, call 1-800-RED CROSS or visit the American Red Cross website.
