Academic Calendar Change for Fall 2024

Dear students, faculty and staff,

I am pleased to share with you a change in the University of South Carolina academic calendar that will begin with the Fall 2024 semester. To allow our students to experience a full week with their families and friends during the Thanksgiving holiday, the semester will begin two days earlier in August. As a result, the first day of classes next fall will be Aug. 20, 2024, while the last day of classes will remain Dec. 6, 2024.

The Division of Academic Affairs, the Division of Student Affairs and Academic Support and all USC colleges and schools are working to ensure a smooth transition to this new calendar, while protecting all the beyond-the-classroom activities and traditions at the beginning of the fall semester.

I hope this change will allow more flexibility at the end of the fall semester and provide our students an opportunity for easier holiday travel.

More information will be shared with you as we approach the 2024-25 academic year.
